Obituary
On August 29, 1987, the world welcomed a star on the rise, Marquez Deon Dukes, a
devoted father, a beloved son, a compassionate brother, and loyal friend.
He accepted Christ at an early age as a member of First Baptist Church Graymont in
Birmingham, AL. Marquez served as a member of the Youth Usher Board, Youth Choir,
and was a part of the Young Men in Training.
To honor his beloved brother’s memory, Marquez perused their passion for cooking. A
graduate of Virginia College Culinary School, he excelled in the culinary arts and
delivered “Never Ending Flavors”. He was also chosen as one of the top ten chef’s in the
2016 graduating class to intern at Disney. Marquez gladly accepted the challenge to show
of his amazing talent.
Marquez departed this earthly life and transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday,
November 27, 2017. He is preceded in death by his twin brother, Maurice Leon Dukes.
The memories of Marquez’s laughter, joyous spirit, contagious smile, and the love he
shared will forever be cherished by: his two daughters, Tiana and Madasyn Dukes; one
son whom he raised as his own, Antonio Gipson; his significant other, Jessica Amison;
his mother, Cynthia Killian; his father, Rodney Dukes; two sisters, LaTanya (Varian) Hall
and Tiffany Taylor; one brother, TrayDarius Simms; two grandmothers, Melissa Davis
and Lena Burton; two nieces, MacKenzie and Kendall Hall; one nephew, Jacobe Hall; a
host of aunts, uncles, friends, and a special brotherhood of friends; Brandon Robinson,
Kennan Kelly, Jarvis Johnson, Michael Taylor, Robert Cameron, Jonathan Simon, Elliot
Croom, Bobby Wells, and Jonathan Weaver; and a host of other relatives and friends.
