Barbara “BobAnn” Ann Townsend was born on April 30, 1958 to the late James Windham and Eartha Holiness. She later met and married Willie L Townsend Sr. on August 28, 1973. To this union, 3 children were born Amanda, LaVera, and Willie, Jr. At an early age Barbara was baptized at Canaan Baptist Church in Bessemer, Alabama. She attended Abrams Elementary and Bessemer High. After working over 30 years in Bell South Corporations through Eurest Dining and Catering Services, she retired early due to the beginning of her illness. Nevertheless, she never lost her love for serving, cooking, and sharing recipes and dishes especially with her church family and her many nurses at Fresenius Kidney Care. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. She proudly provided for her husband and children. Known as "Ma" to everyone, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking, shopping and had recently found a love for makeup, spending hours at a time watching tutorials on YouTube. On Thursday morning January 9, 2020 at 5:15a.m., she departed this world. Barbara fought a long courageous battle and for a long time she would always bounce back, but this time the Lord saw fit to call his child home. So we leave her soul in his hands. Barbara A. Townsend was preceded in death by her mother and father and dear first grandchild, ChrisShunta Ashley Blackmon, and son-in-law Clarence Willie Young. She leaves to cherish for memories; a loving and devoted husband of 46 years Willie L. Townsend Sr., 2 daughters, Amanda Young (late Clarence Young), LaVera Townsend, and a son, Willie Townsend Jr., (Dyneshia Thomas); 2 sisters; Vera "Vickie" Williams, Vanessa "Net" Holiness and one brother Willie Jackson. A stepdaughter Sharon Bowers, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, with a host of nieces, nephews, close in-laws, relatives, and friends, a her precious dog Jazz and the congregation of Wheeling Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
