Charlie Lanier Jr. was born October 31st, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Charlie and Nannie Lanier. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving brother, Percy N. Lanier. He departed his life on Monday, May 8th, 2023. Charlie was educated in the Birmingham School System at Western Olin High. He accomplished many things throughout his years. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on October 30th, 1961. While serving in the Marines, Charlie was appointed a Lance Corporal in 1963, Corporal in 1965 and Sergeant in 1966. He was Honorably Discharged October 27th, 1967. In 1970, Charlie became a Qualified Scuba Diver and spent most of his time diving with his friends. In 1979, he was employed with Brownline/Brook & Perkins, hired as a Punch Press Operator, and later promoted to a Sheet Metal Mechanic. He received a Power of Arrest certification from the California Security Training School in 1980. In 1988, he received a Certificate of Completion at Patterson State Technical College for a tractor, trailer operator. Later, Charlie became a Professional Truck Driver for W.L. Petrey Wholesale. He then moved on to begin a career with Wiley Sanders for numerous years and then retired in 2012. He leaves to cherish his memories, Angela Lanier-Smith (Daughter), Dynasti Dominique Smith (Granddaughter), Richard Denzel Smith (Grandson), Jack (Tiny) Holt (Godson), Joel (Lynn) Lanier (Brother), Victor Lanier (Brother), Shirley Lanier (Special Niece), Nettie Jo Summers (Special Aunt) and many other niece’s, nephew’s, cousins, relatives, and special friends.
