Estell Hawkins

Estell Hawkins was born on July 27, 1940 to the late Deacon Tommy Staten, Sr. and Sarah Staten. She confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of the Rising Star Baptist Church in Flat Creek, AL. She served diligently in the church in the roles of choir member, church clerk, Deaconess and missionary. For 19 years she served in ministry along side her husband, the late Rev. Nathaniel  Hawkins, Jr., during his pastorship at New Hope Baptist Church, Dora, AL. Church wa truly a place of sanctuary and refuge for Sis Hawkins. When the doors were opened you would find her there. She had an unquenchable thirst for God's presence and His word. She was a diligent studier of the scriptures up until the day of her passing.

She was united in Holy matrimony to the late Nathaniel Hawkins, Jr. on Dec. 31, 1961. To this union 4 children were born : Andrea, Nathaniel, III, Tina and Johnathan. Estell also extended her heart in motherly love to her two stepchildren, Arthur Hawkins and Donna Bailey. She loved her family dearly and spent her life making her home a place of peace and tranquility. In her presence you always felt cared for.

Sis Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Nathaniel Hawkins, Jr.; Father, Tommy Staten, Sr.; Mother, Sarah Staten; Siblings, Tommy Staten, Jr., Sayligmon Staten, Sr. and Lovada Myers; and son in law, Glenn Wallace. She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Andrea (Oscar) Wallace, Nathaniel (Sherri) Hawkins, III, Tina Wallace, Johnathan ( Kristian) Hawkins, Arthur Hawkins and Donna (John) Bailey; Sister, Lue Ann Marbury; 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. As her grandson Zachary said on the day of her passing, "Grandma left this world just like  she lived in it, quietly and peacefully."
