Jannie Pennington Obituary


Jannie "Mozelle" Pennington passed away peacefully in her sleep at the residence of her son and daughter-in law, Tyrone and Shannon, at age 80 on February 8, 2021. She was affectionately known as Mozelle to family and friends. Jannie was family oriented  and was the matriarch of her family. She was borned and raised in Orangeburg, S.C and educated in the public school system there. Jannie was the daughter of the late William T. and Azzie Bookhardt Dash. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was also preceded in death by her sister Helen Hughes and brothers Willie, David, Doctor and Timothy Dash. Jannie joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Orangeburg. She later moved to Brooklyn, N.Y and moved her membership to Brownsville Community Baptist Church and worked in many capacities. After moving to Pleasant Grove, Alabama, she moved her membership to St. John’s Baptist Church in Birmingham, where she was a loyal and faithful member. Jannie moved to New York at a young age where she met and married the love of her life, Homer Pennington Sr. To this union they were blessed with three sons Homer Jr., Perry and Tyrone. Her husband Homer Sr., and sons Homer Jr. and Perry precedes her in death.  
She worked a variety of Jobs. An entrepreneur at The Farmers Market, a licensed cosmetologist and housekeeper.
Jannie is survived by one son Tyrone (Shannon) Pennington of Birmingham, Alabama. Three sister- Maggie Bell Mack of the Bronx, N.Y, Jessie Jenkins or Orangeburg, S.C and Mary Williams of Orangeburg, S.C. Two Brothers- Franklin R. Dash of New York City, N.Y and Eugene (Mary) Dash of Bayshore, N.Y. Six grandchildren Sgt. Homer Trey Pennington III of Salt Lake City, Utah, Whitney Disher of Orangeburg, S.C, Tyrone P. Pennington of the Bronx, N.Y, Brandon Pennington of Atlanta, Georgia, Aleha Pennington and Anthony Pennington both of Birmingham, Alabama. She also leaves a host of loving great grandchildren, nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.
