Mrs. JoHelen Childers was born on January 28, 1942 to the late Dan Childers and Elizabeth Tolliver in Livingston, Alabama. On March 17, 2020, she departed this earthly life and accepted God’s free gift of eternal life. She was surrounded by her family. As she enters His gates with praise, she will not be alone. In the garden will be her parents, two sisters; Mary Louise Jones and Mattie Louise Hudson and one brother; Willie Witt. JoHelen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a tender age. She later moved to Birmingham, Alabama and joined the South Elyton Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Moreland Lanier and have remained a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor Reginald Brown, where she has worked faithfully in many areas of the church: Deaconess Ministry, Sanctuary Choir member, BTU, Ida Williams Sunday School Class, original member of the Elmira Brown #2, Progressive Matron Ministry and Janie Martin Circle #1. JoHelen was known by her children and grandchildren as ‘Mommie and Grandma”. She loved spending time with her family and church family and loved her Pastor dearly. She always had a kind word to everyone who knew her, she was a confidant to so many. She enjoyed reading her bible and spending time praying, one of her favorite scriptures was Psalms 27 and her favorite past time was shopping for pretty dresses and hats. Gathered to comfort each other in grief, celebrate the life and forever cherish the memories of our beloved JoHelen; six devoted and loving children; Tyrone (Tahesia) Childers , Donnie Childers and Ronnie Childers all of Livingston, AL., Elizabeth Childers and Lynette Childers of Birmingham, AL., and LaWanda (Elder Thomas) Lewis of Niagara Falls, NY., one brother; Dan (Gwen) Childers and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed.
