Mr. Marcus Keith Hawkins, affectionately known as Markey, was born to Ms. Corine Brooks and Mr. Joe Smith on March 24, 1957. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Rising Star Baptist Church in Flat Creek, AL. He was a graduate of Dora High School and a veteran of the United States Army. While in the Army, he was an outstanding basketball player. Upon being discharged from the Army, he attended technical school where he majored in electronics. He entered into Holy matrimony to Ms. Linda Jackson and to this union their son, Calvin Lamar Hawkins, was born. He was employed with UAB Hospital for a number of years until his retirement due to health reasons. After his retirement he continued to live a quiet and fulfilled life until his passing. He brought joy and touched so many lives with his sweet spirit and contagious laughter. He departed this life on January 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by father, Mr. Joe Smith; a daughter, Markitta Hawkins; Grandparents, Nathaniel, Sr. and Mary K. Hawkins; and several, uncles, aunts and cousins. He leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Calvin (Maria) Hawkins of Birmingham, AL.; Mother, Corine Brooks of Birmingham, AL.; Siblings: Dr. Felecia Brooks (Jerry) Jones of McCalla, AL., Sharon and Joan Smith of Brooklyn, New York, Rev. Manasseh (Felita) Hawkins of Birmingham, AL., Carlton (Sonja) Brooks of Marriottsville, MD., Minister Stephen (Rose) Brooks of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Darryl (Pamela) Smith of Middletown, DE. and Austin Brooks of Hueytown, AL.; Aunts: Mary Grace Hawkins and Myrtle Hawkins both of Birmingham, AL.; Uncles: William (Annette) Hawkins of Forestdale, Al. and Curtis Joe (Debra) Hawkins of Adamsville, AL.; Nieces and Nephews: Fallon, Jennifer, Corine "Nikki", Jasmine, Jerrica, Schuyler, Dallas, Minister Joshua, Jeremiah, Karrard, Quincy, and Austin Conner; and a host of other relatives and friends.
