August 4, 1951 – July 23, 2024
Otis Laray Brown, affectionately known as O.B. and Laray, passed away on July 23, 2024, at 72. He was born on August 4, 1951, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Mr. Otis and Mattie Brown of Edgewater, AL. As a young man, he joined St. Mark AME Church.
Otis dedicated much of his life to public service. He began his career as a Deputy Sheriff at Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and later became a police officer with the Fairfield Police Department. He retired as a Sergeant from the Midfield Police Department, where he was well-respected and made many lifelong friends.
Throughout his career in law enforcement, Otis was known for his warmth, generosity, and commitment to making everyone feel welcome and safe. Otis earned a degree in Computer Technology from Lawson State Community College, reflecting his lifelong dedication to learning and personal growth. He also received several certificates and awards while serving as a police officer.
Otis was an avid traveler, photographer, fisherman, and music enthusiast, Otis enjoyed rocking out to his favorite tunes, caring for his cherished Roush Ford truck, and exploring new foods. He adored his four grandchildren, especially his firstborn grandson, whom he nicknamed Buddy.
Otis is survived by his loving wife, Debra (McCain) Brown; his daughters, Teryn Cerae Boykin (Lonnie) and Keri L. Brown; his grandchildren, Amarion Kelly, Aeryn Kelly, Javyn Boykin, and Jade Boykin; his siblings, Brenda Brown, Debra Moorer (Kenneth), Claude Michael Brown, Carl Brown, and Darryl Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Mattie Brown, his older brother, Jasper Brown, and his daughter, Stacey D. Jones.
His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
